Nevada's oldest hotel, the Gold Hill Hotel's was constructed in the early 1860's  as  the Riesen House, and shortly after
acquired by H. M. Vesey. The hotel/bar is located  just few miles out of Virginia City with its addition of the  Crown
Point restaurant.

Room 4 is  reputed to be the home of Rosie, one of the full time resident ghosts of the hotel. Room 5 is allegedly the
home of Ghost William. Both rooms are located in the original section of the hotel. The Miner's lodge is located out
back and is separate from the hotel.

The Miner's Lodge, which is just a rock’s throw from the old Yellow Jacket mine shaft where  37 miners were killed in a
fire in 1873. The miners bodies were left buried at the bottom of the mine shafts.  It has been reported that the ghost of
these miners still inhabit the Miner's lodge and at times their voices can be heard coming from the mine and their
presence felt.

Our observations and experiences : As our car pulled  into the parking area of the  Gold Hill Hotel, our first impression
of
the Miner's lodge was that of  a old run down shack. Upon entering the Miner's lodge that feeling was quickly chased
away with its  clean and tidy appearance. During our stay we setup video and audio in both bedrooms and did our initial
walk through and audio checks in hopes of catching the alleged  miners ghost.

The next morning as we were discussing the previous night,we heard noises coming from around and above us. We
grabbed our cameras in hopes of   locating the source of the sounds.

Unable to pinpoint the source of the sounds inside the Miner's lodge we preceded out the back door which is facing the
Yellow Jacket mine. Our first glimpse was at the foundation of the Miner's lodge and it was at this time we knew that we
had caught at least one of the ghost responsible for the haunting!

A hole about the size of a basketball located on the outside wall and at the foundation of the Miner's lodge revealed our
ghost! Peering out at us unafraid,  slowing moving away from us toward the mine  was the Gold Hill Hotel cat. His
fearless manner and ease was demonstrated as he exited the hole and there was no doubt that this was not his first visit
under the Miner's lodge.

Conclusion: Though our audio and video did not reveal any paranormal activity during our stay, the Gold Hill Hotel
remains a glimpse into the past where history abounds.
